The main purpose of this was to build as many back-links as possible as quickly as possible in order to get better search engine rankings.To be honest, this technique did work for quite a while and people ended up getting great results. However, Google, Yahoo and Bing caught on to what people were doing to get better rankings and started coming up with updates to their algorithms to put a stop to this.

However, you could end up getting a better boost by simply creating unique articles and submitting them manually to the top article directories online today.
Don't forget that the major search engines are looking for high quality, useful content to add in to their search results. So if you have high quality links pointing to your sites or pages you will get better rankings from the search engines.
I do understand the allure of using article submission software, but in the end it could end up hurting your site. Keep in mind that the major search engines these days not only reward ethical links to your site but they also penalize sites that are using unethical linking techniques.
Article marketing itself is still a great way to get traffic to your sites and build high quality links. But in my opinion, this is something that you need to do manually and not with an article submission software. By doing it manually, you will be able to post your articles to high authority sites.
